WEEKLY THOUGHTS:

In a democracy it is called:

"The Tyranny

of the Majority."

Can you name your tyrannies?

CONTROLLING CONGRESS

Since the Constitution was written for the citizens to control the government it is about time that the citizens took up that responsibility.   Although a good portion of the tyranny is initiated by the citizens themselves it is incumbent upon them to reign in their demands on government.  There is a great tendency to blame the corporations or the lobbyists or the politicians for the problems in America.  This is false.  The voters, either asking government for something or accepting what government has done, are to blame.  To control other people, or to take something from other people that one wants is immoral.  The American people need to become completely responsible for their own lives and not meddle in other peoples' lives.  Now some may say that "I am my brother's keeper" but the phrase says "I am," not 'we are' and especially not by the use of the vicious and violent force of government guns.  Therefore, if someone wants to be the keeper of his brother let him or her do it on his or her own time and with his or her own resources.  One demand on government here and one demand there and before you know it they all add up to real tyranny, as we are now enjoying.  Congressmen, always promoting themselves as "saviors" of something, are happy to accommodate a constituent or a non-constituent if it leads to a vote, more power and prestige.  They have forgotten or choose to ignore their number one job, that of protecting the Freedom of all Americans and that means all Americans, all of the time, not when convenient or politically correct.  Congressmen's principles seem to be different from those that Americans expect of them. We have just watched Congress push through a health care bill that the majority of Americans did not want.  That is tyranny.  Congress needs to fear the wrath of the people whenever they try to force the taking of people's Freedom.  And the people who want Congress to take someone else's Freedom should also fear the wrath of those who want to maintain Freedom.

Congressmen and women are the servants of the people.  In order for them to maintain their powerful positions they must satisfy their constituents.  On every issue it is difficult for a Congressman to know the desires of their constituents.  Every vote he or she makes is for some of the constituents and against some other of the constituents.  This balancing act is the difference between a good and a bad one.  Actually, most of the congressmen are not good due to the fact that they have taken a oath to uphold the Constitution.  There cannot be more than a handful who do that.  Between their constituents, their party, their security, their trade-offs, etc. it is difficult for them to even consider which portion of their district they are going to favor on this issue and which they will vote against.  It is a difficult position to be in.  But one thing that is sure is that his or her personal needs comes first.  They cannot keep the FOCUS ON FREEDOM of every individual in America, which is what their oath says.  Even though they are elected by the people in their district Congressmen vote on issues that effect every American, the only way they can be honest about their votes is to honor the oath.  Bringing home the bacon to their district is not honoring the oath.  Congressmen are not supermen.  They have the same and more faults that all people have.  They must be forced to honor the oath each one takes upon entering the office.  They must protect the Freedom of every individual in the country with every vote.  They must not harm one group in order to serve another group.  Voters must also have the same responsibility of maintaining every American's Freedom, because if all are not free, none are free.

Controlling Congress can only be done honestly if the majority of Americans maintain the FOCUS ON FREEDOM for every other American.
