Freedom Means Gridlock
Freedom doesn’t really mean gridlock but in a Free country, in order to keep it Free, it needs and demands gridlock. After the victory of the Revolutionary War George Washington stated that Americans were now ABSOLUTELY FREE. Being absolutely free did not seem to bring about chaos, evil, treachery or any of the other fears that people un-necessarily worry about in their fear of ABSOLUTE FREEDOM. The colonists had generally been free for over 150 years due to the distance between England and what became America. English law had given them a pretty good foundation of right and wrong, which is almost common sense if one wants to live in peace with their fellow human beings. When King George and Parliament began leaning on the colonists and increasing power over them, the colonists balked, rebelled, and stood their ground against the most powerful country in the world. Fortunately, for Americans they were successful. The important point is that their Freedom did not bring chaos. In fact it brought about a feeling of peace and independence to pursue their wishes without any heavy handed government people interfering.
So, the Declaration of Independence was signed in July 1776. The Articles of Confederation (of the independent Colonies) kept Freedom alive for the years until the Constitution was ratified in 1789. The founders tried to restrain the corruption of power in government people by making it difficult for them to usurp their powers and take Freedom from the people. Gridlock, shut downs and impeachments are the best ways to stop power grabbers. These methods need to be activated whenever there is an attempt at usurpation of power or intrusion on the Freedom of individuals or States. What if government people were more attuned to the importance of Freedom for all Americans and States.
What if, from the day of the ratification to the present, gridlock had prevailed, in the House of Representatives, to stop every encroachment on the Freedom of the individual and the States? What would American Freedom look like? What would the list of Federal Laws look like? What harm would have come about without any Federal laws restricting individuals and States? Would there have been or would there now be any additional harm from what America experiences now? What would be better about America? What would Federal taxes be? How would all of the intrusions of the Federal Government on individuals and States be handled or not be handled? Would the Federal Government be doing any more than what is spelled out in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution? Why would it? How would the marketplace react to serve the needs and desires of Americans. What would be the size of the Federal Government?
Would some of the limited tasks assigned to the Federal Government people be dropped by constitutional amendment and replaced by the marketplace, such as the Post Office? coining money? maintaining the gold standard? Post roads? promoting sciences and arts? patents and copyrights? courts? passports? immigration?
Would the three branches of government monitor and restrict each other’s power grabs or would they learn to work together and scratch each other’s backs as they do now? Would there need to be civilian committees set up to stop the abuses of power (guardians guarding the guardians of Freedom)?
Would the other branches and the civilian committees be able to keep the President limited to his constitutional assignments? Would they be able to keep the military from overstepping their constitutional assignments and still be the most powerful military in the world?
What if the States followed the Freedom of the Federal government? What if the States and local governments had no restrictions on individuals, other than right and wrong? What if the states could not train State employees or State citizens in the arts of how to subject individuals to a horrendous numbers of laws? Currently, they are training grounds to condition and force individuals to consent to the evils of all levels of government people.
Since most people just want to run their own lives and do not have much interest in politics, Freedom and the workings of government, how can they be taught to pay close enough attention to politicians to stop their every move to power? With ABSOLUTE FREEDOM it is fairly easy to keep track by refusing even the slightest encroachment into their lives by any Federal government person. What if there was ABSOLUTE FREEDOM where any slight attack on that Freedom would stand out like a sore thumb? If the answer is always a resounding NO to any intrusion on Freedom then Freedom is fairly easy to maintain. Gridlock is the answer. Saying no is the answer. ABSOLUTE FREEDOM is the answer.
