WEEKLY THOUGHTS:

In the United States, as soon as a man has acquired some education and pecuniary resources, he either endeavors to get rich by commerce or industry, or he buys land in the bush and turns pioneer. All that he asks of the state is, not to be disturbed in his toil, and to be secure of his earnings.

Right And Wrong

Right and wrong are pretty simple values to comprehend and follow. Even pre-kindergarten children know the difference. They seem to do a very good job of keeping them in mind through their school years. It’s when they get out of high school, at about age eighteen, and begin to vote that they seem to get a bad case of forgetfulness. Ironically, it is at this age that right and wrong become much more important to themselves as well as to other members of society. In their personal lives, their work lives and their voting lives that right and wrong have such a lasting effect. Many people grow in stature and many people choose the wrong path and do not live up to their capabilities. In the personal issues it is sad to see their lives wasted because of not remembering the effects of right and wrong. None of us like to witness the disservice to themselves, but usually the self inflicted harm is contained within that person’s life. However, when he or she votes he or she can inflict great harm on friends, family and strangers and the country, who are innocent of any wrong doing. Voting is personal, not only for the voter but also for the person or persons upon which one’s will is being forced. The voter may be trying to do some good for himself or herself or for unknown persons in need. But to accomplish a perceived good, if using government to do it, a real harm is always done to some others. So, to do right for one is undoubtably doing wrong to another, and it is wrong to do harm to another. This is always the case, no matter if it is an economic issue, a moral issue, a religious issue or any number of issues that come up in life.

To get perspective there are very few bad people in America. There is no reason that innocents should suffer because a voter is trying to punish or stop a bad guy from doing evil. If one always believes he or she is the swing vote (that is the tie breaker) or is speaking face to face to the person upon which one is going to do harm it becomes harder to inflict the harm because one knows it is wrong to do so. Voting is personal. Politics is personal. This would be a better and more peaceful country and more peaceful world if the values of right and wrong were considered in all voting and when supporting government actions. We all know the difference between right and wrong. It guides most of our lives. We need to use the right and wrong guide more often.

By letting the philosophy of FOCUS ON FREEDOM for all guide all public activities almost all problems that plague America will disappear. Government is the cause of almost all of America’s problems. It certainly cannot be the cure.
