WEEKLY THOUGHTS: A constitutional republic is not the same as a democracy in which a "consensus" is necessary to reach an agreement on an action. The Constitution gives the various branches of the federal government the power to do only certain things - and nothing else! A democracy is rule by the majority - a gradual but inevitable slide into dictatorship. A constitutional republic is a protection for the minority.
Some rights are inherent and too important to leave to the electorate. |
