WEEKLY THOUGHTS:

Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule — and both commonly succeed,  and are right.

Withering Freedom

Is there any question in any thinking person’s mind that Freedom has withered away since the Founding of America? Forget politics, forget political parties, forget Presidents, forget any individuals in any government positions and compare the day after the Declaration of Independence was signed, when Americans were absolutely Free with today when there are so many laws restricting Americans Freedom that no one, including the most brilliant scholars, knows them. This cannot be honestly or seriously disputed. For a group of people who seemingly wanted to live in Freedom and were willing to fight and die for that Freedom, how did this happen? Ignorance? Apathy? Dishonesty? Greed for power? Loss of virtue? Hate? Love? Justice? Desire for good? Patriotism? Freedom? Greed for goods? Peace? Democracy? Factions? Us verses them? Jealousy? Pride? Religion? Etc. Etc. All of these reasons and many more are all true. However the biggest reason that we are where we are is force.  Force is non partisan.  It can be used for good or it can be used for bad or for both.  And it has been used for all three.  As is the case in the phrase "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder", so it is with good and bad or evil.  What’s good for one is sure to be evil to another.

To avoid the never ending opinions of what or who is good or bad or evil lets look at some changes to familiar phrases. What is good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander. What is good for General Motors is not necessarily good for America.  What is good for Joe is not necessarily good for Jill.  Get the point?  The point is that one cannot please everyone at any time.  And quite often one cannot please anyone at any time.  Such are laws with their various misleading parts. Knowing this, and every honestly thinking person knows this, it makes more sense to do nothing.  It is almost impossible to "do no harm" when intruding into another’s affairs, whether trying to do good or not.  Even if a majority of the people desire something good strongly enough to go to government people to force that something on the minority it is not acceptable in a free country. This, on its face eliminates Democracy or the will of the people as being a viable philosophy for keeping Freedom from withering away.

Returning to the question above, "how did this happen?"  It becomes obvious that intervention into others’ affairs, on either side, is the cause of Freedom withering.  A look into the mirror will clearly expose the culprit.  Understanding the meaning of Freedom is the first step in the quest for peace.  It’s common sense that when one continually steps on another’s toes there will not be peace.  Even giving the victim an ice cream once in a while will not erase the pain.  There will be no peace until civilization evolves into being more civilized to fellow man, which means fellow Americans.  Without ABSOLUTE FREEDOM, gained by the FOCUS ON FREEDOM Americans’ Freedom will continue to wither.
